Hi, I’m Eric!

I'm a Psychotherapist and Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker .

Work Experience

  • Prior to my own practice

Before starting my own practice, I worked for 3 years in a residential setting with people who were in recovery from substances and who were living with HIV. I met with people individually and ran several groups focused on topics including healthy relationships, coping skills, processing trauma, mindfulness, health and wellness, CBT, and DBT.

I worked for 5 years at a community health center specializing in serving the LGBTQ+ community. I primarily met with folks to address issues like anxiety, depression, trauma, and coming out. While there, I lead a two groups: 1 focused on building CBT skills for managing anxiety and another process group focused on supporting people living with chronic pain navigate relationships with themselves, others, and the medical system.

  • Training

I have experience working with couples and received Gottman Level 1 training. I was part of a program called TransECHO where I and several colleagues from my health center helped spread knowledge and best practices regarding trans affirming care.

My private practice has been in operation since 2020. Modalities I use include Narrative Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Mentalization Based Therapy, Psychodynamic Therapy, and Solution Focused Therapy. I also provide Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing(EMDR) therapy as well for those who are interested.

Guiding Philosophy and Values

  • Authentic connection

I believe that for therapy to be effective, there needs to be an authentic connection and sense of trust with the person in front of you. My clinical style is active and collaborative. By active, I mean that I prefer to provide skills, tools, insights, and perspectives as well as provide a listening ear. By collaborative, I mean that our work is a collaboration between my knowledge and expertise in therapy, and your knowledge and intuitions about what works best for you. I want to join you in exploring deeper issues but only to the point to which it is challenging, not unbearable. I recognize and acknowledge my imperfections as a human being and encourage feedback in situations where you might be feeling uncomfortable, something feels unhelpful, or there is a different direction you might be hoping the session will go in. I also believe the therapeutic relationship is of the utmost importance. I plan to bring my most genuine and authentic self to the therapeutic space and hope to provide you with a space where you feel emotionally safe enough to express your thoughts and feelings while experiencing little to no judgment.

  • Therapeutic Approach

I hold the belief that thoughts, feelings and behaviors all impact each other and changing one can have effects on the others. I also believe that we all inherit beliefs, stories and narratives from the people around us, society, and our family and friends. Some of these beliefs are helpful and that’s great! However, some of these beliefs can be harmful or unhealthy. In these cases, I believe it to be beneficial to explore the roots of these beliefs further, the purpose they serve or served, and question their validity in order to form a more adaptive view of ourselves and the world.  Additionally, I believe exploring the mind-body connection to be important to understanding and healing of ourselves.

I hope to provide a nonjudgmental space where you feel heard, and also empowered to express yourself fully and genuinely. We will collaborate on goals that will focus on supporting you to be the most successful you that you can be. Some ways we will accomplish this include building insight and awareness, capitalizing on healthy and productive patterns, and learning ways to change unhelpful patterns. Feedback is always welcome.
